Schools and Education in the Santa Clarita Valley

Education is a key that opens doors. When at its best, it helps our children realize their full potential by offering inclusive learning opportunities for all. Schools are a big deal in the Santa Clarita Valley, and we are proud to be located between three of California’s most highly rated districts — Newhall, Saugus and William S. Hart — each one receiving top testing scores among public schools throughout the State and the National Blue Ribbon Schools award.

From Kindergarten through twelfth grade, undergraduate studies and beyond, the Santa Clarita Valley is known for its outstanding educational institutions. Elementary school students are part of either the Newhall or Saugus Union School District with a total of 25 schools combined, featuring indoor-outdoor classrooms, experiential curriculum and an engaging, dedicated teaching staff. Arts and STEM education start in a majority of K-6 programs as well, like at West Creek Academy, a recipient of the 2020 California Distinguished School award. There are also several charter schools, transitional and junior kindergartens in the area. This is where your child’s learning journey begins.

Middle school and high school students attend the William S. Hart Union High School District, home to six middle schools and seven high schools altogether. This includes Rancho Pico Junior High School, where sixth grade students can take a variety of elective vocational courses and gain real-world skills to carry into adulthood. At Saugus High, freshmen can enroll in a four-year engineering pathway program; and students who are interested in pursuing a medical career can enroll in the Valencia High Medical Science Academy. High school students can also get a head start on their collegiate studies by taking free classes through College of the Canyons.

With a majority of high school graduates pursuing higher education, we are lucky to have fantastic colleges nearby. The College of the Canyons is a community college in the heart of Santa Clarita that offers four-year degrees in a variety of subjects; and just a mile down the road, we have the world-class California Institute of the Arts (CalARTS), offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in visual art, film and videography, music, dance and theater.

There’s no doubt about it, Valencia is a great place for families. And it’s a great place to find quality education too. Our local school districts are committed to creating safe, supportive environments, where every single student is empowered every day to become illustrious community leaders of tomorrow. By opening their minds, we open doors for everyone. That’s no magic trick, it’s just the power of schools. It’s also our vision for the future.
