Big Ideas for a Greener Future

Big Ideas for a Greener Future

Some of the best ideas for the future come from the people who are going to shape it.

That’s why we’re excited to share a new opportunity for young changemakers in Los Angeles County. The Youth Climate Commission is now accepting applications for its Climate Action Project mini-grant program, inviting youth ages 18 and under to submit a three-minute video about a climate action project they’d like to bring to life in their community.

Five projects will be selected — one in each Supervisorial District — and each will receive a $1,000 grant to help support youth-led events and activities.

The focus is on projects that make a meaningful local impact, with priorities including clean air, green buildings, green space, waste, mobility and healthy food. Just as important, these projects are designed to keep youth voices at the center of the planning and implementation process.

At Valencia, that message resonates.

Sustainability has long been part of our vision for community life here — from thoughtful planning to outdoor spaces that help people connect with nature and each other. And just as important as the places we create are the people who will carry them forward. Young people bring fresh perspective, energy and ideas that can help shape a healthier, more resilient future for all of us.

Because the future of a community isn’t just built in the present. It’s also inspired by the next generation.

If you know a young person with a big idea for making a difference, now’s a great time to encourage them to take the next step. Whether their passion is reducing waste, expanding access to healthy food, improving green space or rethinking mobility, this is a chance to turn that passion into action.
